Your Club Goes to Council – AF Thomas Project Update

Dear NHG Families,

Following our Board Chair’s recent communication about the exciting Herald article on flood-resistant sports facilities, I wanted to update you on our next steps.

I’ll be representing North Harbour Gymnastics at Auckland Council to ensure our club is included in decision-making around the AF Thomas flood mitigation proposals. As your CEO, I’m committed to securing our facility’s future and your families’ continued access to quality gymnastics programs.

Why your voice matters:

  • We serve 6,000 community members weekly across our programs
  • The 2023 floods cannot happen again — we lost 8 weeks and $1.2M in equipment
  • This development could deliver the flood-resistant infrastructure our community needs
  • Your club deserves representation in decisions affecting our shared future

The proposed Eventfinda Stadium upgrades and innovative flood management system represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build resilient community infrastructure.

Mark your calendars:

  • Council representation: 17 September 2025
  • Public consultation opens: 20 October 2025
  • We’ll provide submission guidance when details are released

Special thanks to our Board member Danielle Grant for her tireless advocacy as Kaipatiki Local Board Deputy Chair. We wish her well in the upcoming elections!

I’ll keep you informed of all developments. Together, we’ll ensure North Harbour Gymnastics thrives for generations to come.

Yours in gymnastics,
Debrah Breedt
