MAG_REC.JPGRECREATIONAL ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS CLASSES

For boys and girls aged 5-14 years

Classes: Monday – Sunday (see below for our timetable)

$162-$187 per term

WHAT IS RECREATIONAL ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS?

Recreational Artistic Gymnastics uses different apparatus to perform skills and routines.

GIRLS USE: 12x12m Sprung Floor, Beam, Uneven Bars, Vault and Trampoline

BOYS USE: 12x12m Sprung Floor, High Bar, Vault, Rings, Parallel Bars and Trampoline

The children will learn the key dominant movement patterns of landing, locomotion, springing, rotating, swinging and balancing. These patterns are the foundation for all sports and are a great way to compliment any other sports your children do. Typically Artistic gymnasts show good overall strength, flexibility and coordination.

Progression and fun are the main key elements in our Recreational Artistic Gymnastics Program and there are events at which ribbons, certificates and badges can be earned as children progress and develop their skills throughout the year.

Children are encouraged to do a minimum of two terms back to back so they can work on improving their flexibility, strength and key gymnastics skills.

Our trained coaches encourage and challenge each and every child to his or her fullest potential.

*Leotards are ideal, but not compulsory. Fitted shorts and t-shirt are fine. Children must have bare feet unless medical reasons state otherwise. Long hair must be tied up and no jewelry. Leotards are available at the office and can be worn to training and competitions.

PARENT INFO: All children who attend these classes are grouped by their age. Generally, similar aged children have a similar physical ability. If your child is saying their class is boring or too easy then it means they have possibly out grown their age based class. In this case it is best to have them evaluated to see where they are at and which class would be best suited for them moving forwards. Please email tiffany@nhgym.co.nz to organise an evaluation.

Gymnastics skills are made up of lots of different body shapes. These shapes require repitition to learn. The children work on developing the strength and muscle memory required for each shape before transfering them to the differnt skills. For example, Dish shape is learnt on the floor first. When the children can hold a strong dish on the floor for 30 seconds this easily transfers to a safe back swing on bars - demonstrated in the pictures below;

Flexibilty and strength are also very important for learning skills safely. We work on these throughout every lesson as they are really important for the progression of skills.

If you ever have any questions about the shapes and skills that you see your child doing in their class please feel free to ask one of our staff members.

*Please note we also offer 1.5 hour classes which help to extend the children who would like to do more gymnastics and work on harder skills. (Timetable below)
